The Wishing Chair

Where: Shahpur jat, New Delhi
What:The Wishing Chair/The Mad Teapot Cafe
Price: 600 INR (App)
Timings:12 noon-7:30pm

In the heart of Delhi’s Shahpur Jat area lies this little Fairy tale Store/Cafe “The Wishing Chair”. On the outside it will look like a Furniture store but when you enter the place you’ll realise this tiny little place is not so little and has a cute, well decorated Tea cafe.

The whole place has colourful lighting which is not overdone in anyway instead gives a lively impact to the store. One can find different types of handmade, origami wall hangings and lamps. They have the most unique show pieces with them with pastel colours being the main ingredient of all.

The owner of this place is a beautiful woman who will treat you with the cutest smile and warmest hospitality. The cafe menu is not very lavish but the variety of teas and coffee they have is definitely better than most of others. Oh yes, they have beautiful cutlery as well just like how you see in those old British and European films.

In the food menu they have a good variety of pastas, salads, sandwiches and mini meals to offer. I ordered for “The far away farm sandwiches” and “Assam tea with tea leaves”
The sandwiches were scrumptious and filled properly with sautéed mushrooms, onion, thyme and feta cheese and the sandwiches are served with a portion of mashed potatoes and trust me you can have those potatoes apart from sandwiches as well and yes  I can still feel the taste of sandwiches on my tongue.

This place serves really tasty cupcakes as well. You can ask them for the flavours they have for the day and you can always try them.

When in shahpur jat do check out this pretty little place which surely will call you again n again. And yes many thanks to “I Say Organic” team for giving me an opportunity to visit this place.

Launch of “House of Singh & Ching”

Launch of House Of Singh & Ching

What- Sino-Indian Fusion, Indian and Chinese

Where- 2nd Floor, Block H, Eros Cinema Complex, Jangpura Extension, New Delhi

Price- since it was a launch event the rate card was not available but roughly somewhere between 1000-1500 INR (without alcohol)

Timings- 12 Noon- 11:30pm

Delhi’s Jangpura Extension has a newbie amongst itself, House Of Singh & Ching  a Sino- Indian fusion restaurant which serves some exquisite delicacies especially prepared in their kitchen by the chef who swears by the authentic Thai flavor his food has also at the same time it has the taste of most sort after Indian dishes like Butter Chicken, Tandoori Malai chicken tikka and so on.

The first dish that was served on our table was Thai Herb Fish which was instantly liked by everyone and within minutes got over. The second dish was Kaffir Lime Paneer Tikka, this dish has a very strong flavor and aroma of Kaffir lime so strong that someone who’s not used to of the flavor might not like it. The food was accompanied by some colorful cocktails such as Green Spider, Cherry Gimlet and Raspberry Martini.

The cocktails were Mocktails in disguise with only fruit flavor and lime juice and No alcohol, nearly.

The second round of food had Prawn Angare, Burrah Mutton, Spicy Tandoori Fruit chat and Prawns with Coconut Chutney & Curry Leaf. Prawns Angare and Burrah Mutton were a hit at the event, well cooked, spiked with spices perfectly and served with love.

What caught my fancy was the cocktails that came on our table with these dishes, Chhach Margarita, Jaljeera Vodka and The Enchanter. But yet again the cocktails inspite of their unique combination lacked right amount of alcohol.

Now the Ambience of the place, you’ll see the Chinese set-up dominating the restaurant, the bar counter could have been more innovative instead being a plain white!! But according to the place they’ve used the space well and I personally loved the music they played, bang on according to the place.

House Of Singh & Ching is located in the Eros Complex which gives them an added benefit No Parking Issues!! You can easily park your car in the complex basement.

Kaffir Lime Paneer Tikka

It was a very difficult task but something which was enjoyed by everyone.

Prawn Angare- well cooked, spiked with Indian spices perfectly and mouth watering. Do try them when you visit this place, they will not disappoint you.

Kaffir Lime Paneer Tikka- too salty, had a very strong flavor of kaffir lime but still something really different and worth trying. P.S Do not try if you don’t have a taste for Thai food you may not like it.

Thai Her Fish- right amount of herbs and oyster sauce made this dish just perfect! Highly recommended.

Spicy Tandoori Fruit Chat- except pineapple no other fruit tasted good.

Stir fried mushrooms- again the dish was too salty, you can avoid this.

Chhach Margarita- tequila, salted buttermilk, lime juice & coriander. Yes, you read it right this drink leaves you confused and wondering whether to like it or not. But it will definitely tantalize your taste buds. Do give it a try.

Jaljeera Vodka- a typical Indian welcome drink twisted in an interesting way. Give it a try you’ll like it for sure.

Green Spider- vodka and crème de menth, this drink tasted nothing more than a mocktail with mint flavor.

The Enchanter- spiked with spices, star anise, gin & orange juice. A good amalgamation of spices and Gin.

Cinnamon Ice-cream- this was the winner of the whole event. Perfect taste, beautiful flavor and simple yet elegant presentation.

On a scale of 10 I will give this place 6.5, a lot needs to be worked out but I’ll still give them a benefit of doubt since they’re still afresh and in the initially stage.

Happy Eating & Happy Eating!!!

Raasta Gurgaon

What: European, Thai and Mexican cuisine, Huge on bar and finger food

Where: Second Floor, Cyber Hub, Contact: 011-33036892

Price: 2000-2500 INR for two ( with one round of drinks)

Timings: 12pm-12am

This HKV import Caribbean Lounge is a big hit at DLF Cyber Hub Gurgaon, as the name suggest it’s inspired by the Rastafarian movement and the complete décor is done with Red, Green, yellow and Gold. With bigger and better sitting area this outlet glitters with lights and you can hear the typical Bob Marley music from across the floor. In short “Chill” is the word you can use while sitting here.

The food is a mix of European, Caribbean and Thai. You can choose from their food menu the authentic Jamaican and twisted in their own way Mexican delicacies. The bar is another highlight of this place, from cocktails to assorted beer options and from wine to scotch you name it and they have it. The place is divided into three sections, two open lounges and a covered lounge. You can groove to the music or just relax and spend time with your friends, also the interesting part about one of the outer areas is the separate bar counter they’ve for the people sitting outside.

The area outside is done with wooden chairs and high rise tables, you will find Bob Marley pictures, wallpapers, paintings hanging from the wall, oh! They don’t have a wall outside; instead they have Bamboos incorporated as a wall which again gives you a total Caribbean feel.

Another interesting thing you will find out is the collage of images done on one of the walls and the main wall is covered with ‘Bongs’ kept in metal cages with different lights. The décor is exceptionally good and everything has been done in keeping the theme of the restaurant in mind. Full marks to the Interior Designer.

Graffiti Wall

After absorbing the vibe of the place, I ordered the food. Jamaican chicken strips, Fish & Chips accompanied by three drinks (cocktails) out of which two were made right there by the Bar-tender and the third one was Sangria. Talking about food, the first thing which I noticed was the quantity they serve, it’s Huge!! Well prepared, decorated and served with a smile.

Jamaican Chicken strips

The second round of food was served after chatting up with the head chef of Raasta, Mr. Anil who discussed about the countries, cuisines and how he incorporated the international flavors in his food, while keeping Indian audience in mind. Tenderloin steak and Pasta Arabiatta was served and this time on my personal request they decreased the quantity or else I would have been full till neck, thanks to the yummy food they served. Next came were the two entirely opposite drinks just to tamper the taste buds. Virgin Mojito and Sour Jack Daniel’s (without egg). The Sour JD was my favorite out of all and Virgin Mojito was just as opposite, a Big NO.

Raasta Special

Jamaican Chicken strips: well cooked, crisp on the outside and chewy on inside, the red chilly Jamaican dip can open your taste buds, ears and nose totally. Accompanied with salad, tangy in taste and this doesn’t over power the taste of chicken as well.

Fish and Chips: one of the best fish and chips I’ve had, cooked to perfection served with tartar dip and fries. This is the safest bet if you’re scared to try anything new.

Tenderloin steak: I ordered for medium rare and yes, I got the same unlike many restaurants which either makes it rare or medium. Served with mashed potatoes and dip this is a delight for a meat eater. Next time you’re at Raasta do order this dish and please mention how you want them to prepare it.

Pasta Arabiatta: I’ve had better pasta than this one; too much of salt and tasteless white sauce also the amount of chicken was nearly zero. You can get much better ones at many places. Order at your own risk.

Miracle: amalgamation of sweet lime, Bacardi white rum, fresh fruits, sweet and sour, this was a drink especially made the bar tender for me at the very moment. Right amount of Bacardi and minimal taste of fruits made the drink perfect for an early evening or a drink you’d want for yourself after work. This is not on the menu but I hope they add it now.

Raasta special: with Gin as a base of the drink, it might hit you a little hard if you don’t have a taste for the alcohol, combined with rose marry syrup and a bit of peach flavor this again was a new found drink by the bar tender. You can have only if you have a taste for Gin.

Sangria: highly avoidable, just like most restaurants even raasta makes fresh sangria whereas it should be made in advance. The older the wine the better.

Sour Jack Daniel’s: a win win drink, this drink won my heart. Perfect balance of everything and for someone new to whiskey this might be a good way to get your hold on the drink.

Virgin Mojito: This drink was complete fail. It tasted nothing more than a fresh lime with just a pinch of mint. Avoidable!

In all, the place won’t disappoint you at all. If in Cyber Hub must visit this lounge if you’re looking for something different and refreshing other than the regular hangout places.
